ABOUT HINA

My Story

I grew up in Andover in Hampshire. As an author and renowned equal rights lawyer, I graduated in law and creative writing at Brunel and Cambridge University respectively. I have  post-graduate qualifications from the Guildford University of Law and live in Hertfordshire with my husband and two sons.

My debut novel, Set Me Free, was an Amazon best debut, a Herald Scotland Book of the Week, a Lovereading Book of the Year and I was named a rising writer (Hive.co.uk).

Following the release of Set Me Free, I was approached by Hollywood icon, Morgan Freeman to take part in a National Geographic production, The Story of Us with Morgan Freeman and the interview appears in the episode entitled The Power of Love (presently on Netflix).

My aim is to shine a light on two things; the many roles we all play in life and on things that really matter.

‘Because we’re more‘. I believe it we can meld together all our different parts. Too often this modern life forces us to be one thing over another. But just like you, I am polyphonic. I am a novelist, a mother, a wife, a sister, a lawyer, a lover of wisdom, and an independent ethnic woman.

I am passionate about eliminating bias and discrimination not just because it is unethical and wrong (which it is) but because our lives, without a doubt, would be vastly improved as a result. Through opening up to otherness, to that which is unfamiliar, we are given access to expanded minds and ‘toolkits’ which enable us to become mentally resilient to difficulties. Reframing, challenging our axiomatic beliefs and breaking out of existing common misconceptions really can change our lives.

‘Things that matter’ I aim to cut through the noise of social media and the misery of world news and home in on those things that really matter in our lives, things that can change our lives. Let’s discuss!

Morgan Freeman

A Bishop’s Stortford author has described the “surreal” experience of watching herself appear in a face-to-face interview with Morgan Freeman in his new documentary last weekend.

Hina Belitz appeared in the National Geographic series The Story Of Us on Sunday (21 January) after the Hollywood icon paid her a visit at her home in Stortford last April.
